According to various sources, Touareg will arrive with numerous changes and upgrades. This crossover SUV will go on sale in the United States, but it fill firstly reach the European soil. A plug-in hybrid variant is finally available. In some markets, Touareg PHEV will mix 3.6-liter V6 gasoline with an electric motor and the battery pack.
This version will produce around 300 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Of course, each market will have Touareg with a different powertrain option. From what we know, Volkswagen won’t deliver any type of performance boost.
2021 Volkswagen Touareg R
If you are a fan of high-performance vehicles, the 2021 Volkswagen Touareg R is the answer. This variant also offers a hybrid powertrain option. It is a mix of 3.0-liter turbo V6 engine and hybrid setup, including electric motor and a 14.1 kWh battery pack.
Thanks to that, Touareg R will generate 455 horses and 516 lb-ft of torque. Volkswagen says the all-electric driving range has been rated at 32 miles. An eight-speed automatic transmission is available, along with the standard AWD setup. That, the R version will add more sportiness and aggressiveness.
2021 Touareg Facelift
As for the exterior design, the new 2021 Volkswagen Touareg will suffer a couple of refinements. The goal is to deliver a sportier appearance that is closer to the Porsche Cayenne. New Touareg rides on the MLFB platform that can also accommodate plug-in hybrid powertrain. The changes are starting upfront with the grille that looks closer to the grille of the Arteon model.
Both models are using the same headlights that are connected to the grille. The rear section will gain larger taillights and bumper. The side profile should largely remain, but new optional wheels are a possibility.

The cabin looks perfect, and it also looks stylish and upright. The German manufacturer will introduce new high-tech amenities, which is excellent. As for the standard features, this crossover SUV offers lumbar support, adjustable front seats and two-zone auto climate control. Ambient lighting looks perfect, and an eight-speaker sound system is available as standard too. You don’t have to worry about the interior room and the comfort. Volkswagen did a great job in this category. For 2021, Touareg will gain new driver-assistance aids, so the safety ratings will be higher than before.
2021 Volkswagen Touareg Price and Release Date
The forthcoming 2021 Volkswagen Touareg will cost around $50,000 or slightly above that. On the other hand, the high-performance Touareg R version will cost almost $90,000. Both models will arrive later this year in Europe. Other countries will have to wait for the beginning of 2021.
