2023 BMW X5 Testing Spotted, What Changes? – Since its introduction in 1999, BMW X5 has grown to become one of the brand’s most important series. Over 70,000 G05s and X6s were sold in the US alone in 2021, and then almost 180,000 were sold worldwide during the first three quarters of the year.
This is the fourth generation of luxury SUVs. We’ll see a lot of prototypes in the coming months because the BMW X5 Facelift (G05 LCI) is set to appear in the first half of 2023 and is currently being heavily prepped for that launch.
Regardless of whether or not this particular model receives a facelift, the present BMW X5 is due for an update. That’s because the X5 has played a vital role in the brand’s overall success.
The Bavarian company’s best-selling product is also one of its most profitable. As a result, in keeping with the usual German way of doing things, we are unlikely to see any significant modifications implemented, at least in design.
The G05 X5 prototype was sighted out for testing earlier this week. This marks a beginning of a long journey before the redesigned vehicle is ready for market. According to the geometry of the headlights, that’s where we’ll see the most design modifications.
We can see from this camouflage that the headlamps have been slimmed, and the grille has been enlarged. It’s kind of difficult to tell just by looking at these photos.
The upcoming changes for the famous mid-size crossover SUV will be a mid-cycle refresh for the current fourth-generation X5, introduced in 2018 as a 2019 model. The revised version is expected to come in 2022 as a 2023 model. It should come with an upgraded version of the X6 that goes with it.
According to the prototypes, the exterior changes will be minor. The lights will have new internals and updated front and back fascias. Several changes are also expected to be made to the interior, including a more complex information system with a larger screen, similar to the iX electric crossover.
It’s unclear what the powertrains will get, but some efficiency or performance boost, or both, seems expected. In the United States, the X5 is now available with either a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 or a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-8.
The inline-6 is accessible as a plug-in hybrid. At the same time, the V-8 can be found in an X5 M, producing 600 horsepower in standard trim & 617 horsepower in Competition trim.
Expect a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain, at least for this generation.
BMW addresses that void with the iX, which will be available at dealerships in the coming weeks. However, it will only be used for demonstration when a fuel-cell-powered version debuts in 2022.
The X5 LCI 2023 will also get a new bumper with new lines at the back. It will also get new taillight lighting technology, but the main structure and design of the lights will stay the same.
Even if the changes aren’t dramatic, they will be felt inside. Likewise, the X5 will be equipped with the two new high-resolution displays that have been issued on board the iX and that we have previously seen in other test units of this model, in addition to the rest of the models. The comfort, connectivity, and driver assistance systems will be enhanced, among other enhancements.
While spy photographers were denied access to the interior, an X5 M prototype with a minimalist shifter, redesigned switchgear, and iX-inspired displays was spotted in April. The digital instrument panel is likely to be 12.3 inches, with a 14.9-inch display for the infotainment system.
Production and Release Date
The company’s manufacturing facilities in South Carolina will handle the X5’s production. In terms of total sales, BMW anticipates a year-over-year increase in 2021 from the 50,513 units sold in 2020. Even so, sales in 2021 are expected to surpass the 54,595 units delivered to consumers in 2019.
